Inspired by heavy duty industrial and military applications around the world, AEV’s JL Wrangler/Gladiator Snorkel Kit improves engine performance by drawing in the cleanest, coolest air charge possible, even in the worst conditions. If you are serious about off-road adventure, the AEV Snorkel is one of the most important modifications you can make.

These Snorkel Kits are extensively tested in both real-world and controlled environments, and unlike other manufacturers, AEV Snorkels are manufactured in the USA out of a high quality, cross-linked polyethylene. Lightweight and extremely strong, this material offers the best combination of strength, UV-resistance, and long-term durability. This material also has exceptional thermal stability in extreme hot/cold temperatures.

The AEV Snorkel for the 2.0L Turbo, 2.0L 4xe, 3.6L Gas, and 2.2L CRD mounts on the right-hand side of the vehicle, whereas the 3.0L EcoDiesel Snorkel mounts on the left-hand side of the vehicle. An optional A-Pillar Mounting Bracket is also available for customers who prefer having the option to fold down the windshield on their Wrangler or Gladiator (excludes 3.0L EcoDiesel). This bracket mounts to the A-Pillar behind the windshield frame, leaving it free to move up and down independently from the Snorkel. AEV recommends installing the Snorkel using the standard mounting bracket included with this kit. This mounting configuration will be the strongest and most durable option for off-road use.

All Snorkel kits include a standard Air Ram inlet. Customers who live or travel in severe environments (high dust, sand, or silt) should consider adding the optional, self-cleaning Sy-Klone Pre-Filter.


Fender Flare Specific Designs

The JL Wrangler/Gladiator Snorkel Kits are ordered according to your engine and OE fender flare style – which is either a “high” or “low” style fender flare. In North America for example, Rubicon models have a “high” fender flare option that allows for more tire clearance. They may look similar, but the “high” fender flare sits about an inch higher and is an inch wider than the standard or “low” fender flare. Export models may vary, depending on the destination country. Please refer to the graphic if you are unsure what style fender flare you have. The EcoDiesel Snorkel is only available for the high flare option.

– The AEV Snorkel is not recommended for JL Wranglers equipped with a one-touch power top.

Product FAQs

Will this work on all the engine options?

It will work on 3.6L Pentastar, 2.0L Hurricane, 2.0L Hybrid, 3.0L EcoDiesel, and export diesel (2.2L CRD).

This snorkel will not fit the Mojave Gladiator (hood). 

Why won't this fit the Mojave Gladiator?

The Mojave Gladiator uses a unique hood and cowl shape that is taller on the sides and doesn't properly fit the snorkel body or bezel. For this reason, the snorkel WILL NOT fit any Mojave Gladiator models. 

Can I still fold down the windshield on my Wrangler/Gladiator?

Yes! Since Jeep put in the work to make the JL/JT’s windshield easier to fold down than the previous generation, we put in the extra work to make sure you can retain that iconic feature even after installing a Snorkel. To do so, we offer an OPTIONAL A-pillar Mounting Bracket that allowing the windshield to be folded down independently from the Snorkel. *Not compatible with EcoDiesel

AEV recommends that customers who anticipate going off-road on tight trails, use the standard windshield mount due to a more robust design and more secure mounting method. 

Is the AEV Snorkel just for deep water crossings?

That’s the popular perception, but snorkels actually do much more. In dry or dusty areas like the Southwest, dust is actually a bigger hazard to your air intake than water or at the very least a more persistent issue. Dusty conditions can wreak havoc on your air filter, choking your engine and reducing performance. This is why we chose to design our Snorkel with an optional Pre-Filter in mind. Pre-Filter’s are commonly used on military and heavy equipment, and AEV’s Snorkel now offers you the same protection for your Jeep. They function much like a cyclonic vacuum cleaner, spinning the majority of dust and debris out of the air before it ever hits your air filter.

I see I have to cut the hood to install this. How difficult is the installation?

It’s actually not that bad. Installation only requires common hand tools and we supply a template to help put your mind at ease when cutting your hood. Aside from that, there are no permanent modifications to your factory airbox. To finish off the install, a molded trim bezel is included to dress up the area where the Snorkel passes through the hood.

How do I know if I have the “high” fender flares on my Jeep?

Can I run the ‘High’ Flare Style Snorkel on my ‘Low’ Flare Style 3.0L EcoDiesel?

Yes! Functionally there is no difference but cosmetically there will be a gap between the top of the flare and the bottom of the snorkel. If you have plans to upgrade to the OE “high” fender flares, this gap will disappear once the flares are added.

Won’t rain and snow get into my engine when I drive down the road?

Not really. With either head unit (Pre-Filter or Air-Ram) there are features in the design to filter out most of the water. The shape of the Pre-Filter and the path that air must take to pass through it will eliminate virtually all of the water from the incoming air. The Air-Ram is designed so that incoming rain will hit the back wall of the Ram and then get channeled into carefully designed drains. This is a critical design feature and one that shouldn’t be ignored. Should a small amount of water ever make it through the snorkel, it will collect harmlessly in the bottom of the air box.

Isn’t plastic going to be too weak for serious off-road use?

Nothing could be further from the truth. Cross-linked polyethylene is virtually indestructible. It’s what whitewater kayaks, bulldozer bushings, and cutting boards are all made out of.

How do I know if I need the optional Pre-Filter?

If you routinely use the vehicle off-road in dusty conditions (and you’re not the trip leader), the Pre-Filter is a wise investment. Its cyclonic filtration removes most debris and dust, spinning the dirt out of the air much like a cyclonic vacuum cleaner. Pre-Filters are commonly used on heavy duty military and commercial applications worldwide. Will the AEV Snorkel work with aftermarket fender flares or steel fenders?

The AEV Snorkel was designed for the factory fenders and factory fender flares. Oversized, aftermarket fender flares that sit higher on the body may not fit or require modification to work, so we encourage customers to do their own independent research on what combinations will work prior to purchasing and attempting the installation.
