AEV Featured in the Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal’s Joseph White recently spent some time with AEV as well as with one of our customers. He came away with a good idea of where AEV stands in the Jeep Wrangler aftermarket industry.

“Mr. McConnell used to drive a Hummer H2, a hulking truck that got about 11 miles to the gallon. Now that Hummer is extinct, Mr. McConnell has moved on to a vehicle that is both more exclusive and more practical: A black, 2011 Jeep Wrangler made over by American Expedition Vehicles of Wixom, Mich.”

We strive to offer a superior product that not only offers American made reliability, but thoughtful design that works with the iconic look of the JK Wrangler.

Brute Double Cab and TJ Brute featured on Gamma Nine

There’s no lack of press coverage when it comes to our Brute line of Wrangler conversions. Over the years the TJ Brute has been featured in hundreds of articles and since the Brute Double Cab was unveiled at SEMA 2011 it has also seen an incredible amount of press coverage in anticipation of it’s late 2012 release. That said it is always a pleasant surprise when a smaller, more personal blog does a feature on our vehicles. This time around we find ourselves landing on Gamma Nine’s “Lust List”.

“Our favorite design feature with the AEVs is the restraint the designers use in fabricating them. There’s a minimal elegance to them; a perfect cohesion of stock-looking parts and subtle custom detailing that really separate them from other aftermarket fabricators.”

Special thanks to Expedition Portal for tipping us off to this great blog!

New Turnkey Packages

With the rollout of these new website features we’ve also updated our Turnkey JK Wrangler packages with new names and specifications.

Most notably, the package names will be changing – our three packages will now be known as JK200, JK250 and JK350, with the package names corresponding with the standard suspension lift included in each level.

In addition to the new package names, we have also slightly revised the content of the JK200 and JK250 packages. Just like our previous generation JK Wrangler vehicle packages, any of these packages are able to be configured in a variety of ways depending on what options fit your needs as well as your budget.

Lift/Tire Size Info Now Available for JK Gallery Images

One of the most common requests since our new website launched in January has been to include the lift and tire sizes pictured in the JK gallery. Many people see beautiful images of our different builds and would like to replicate what we’ve done and it is often difficult to gauge the lift height and size of the tires based on an image. We’re happy to announce that we’ve added these specs as well as where the photo was taken to the JK Gallery.

Photography and Product Testing Trip to Iceland

AEV’s CEO, David Harriton and business partner Michael Chetcuti recently returned from a 10 day trip to Iceland photographing and testing two AEV Jeeps throughout this beautiful country. Harriton, who has wanted to visit Iceland for years said, “It was a dream come true for me to be able to go to Iceland with our vehicles. The scenery is incredible, the people we met were all very nice, and the country in general is just such a great place to see.  Iceland is extremely clean and the terrain is relatively easy to navigate”.

When asked about the vehicles, Harriton replied “Iceland is unique and they have their own way of doing things. In terms of the 4WD drive world, they have very specialized vehicles that do very specialized things. It is not uncommon to see people driving a Toyota Landcruiser or Nissan Patrol on 38-44″ tires, they are just normal family cars in Iceland. It was a great learning experience. I try to always take away a little knowledge from everywhere I travel and incorporate it into our designs. It is extremely important to do this so I can better understand different ways people will use our products.”

Harriton elaborated further, “AEV is known for building well rounded vehicles that are perfect for long distance traveling and excelling in all types of terrain, so the vehicles we brought to Iceland were exactly that. We wanted to see how these all-purpose vehicles would perform under the harsh conditions of Iceland, and they performed flawlessly. We also had seven people between the two vehicles, plus all of our gear. Our vehicles performed as expected, allowing us to successfully cross several major glaciers in Iceland, including the Langjokull glacier, the second largest in Europe.”

During their time in Iceland, Harriton and Checuti also climbed some major volcanic ash dunes, crossed fast moving rivers, and traveled on the Heckla and Katla volcanoes. One of the more unique experiences was traveling on the Snaefelljokull glacier, which happens to be the location where the characters in Jules Vernes 1864 classic, “The Journey to the Center of the Earth” begin their journey to the center of the Earth.
