The Brute Debuted at the 2002 SEMA Show. Take a Jeep, combine it with a utility truck and the Brute was born. The name Brute came from the Aussie term "ute", short for a small work truck. The Brute was the hit of the SEMA show where nearly everyone was running around saying "you've got to go see the Chrysler booth!" This is the vehicle that really put AEV on the map outside of the Jeep community.

AEV 570 Brute Wrangler TJ - vehicle was shown at the 2002 SEMA show
This was one of the first Rubicons delivered into public hands and we promptly cut it up into pieces. In fact, it was sitting on the SEMA Show floor with 11 miles on the odometer. This was also at the time that AEV was converting from drawing stuff on paper to using one of the new 3D CAD systems. We had just paid an insane amount of money for new software and hardware and no one really knew how to run it. All this with a really big project due!
This was also the first time AEV designed an entire project in 3D before any metal was cut. We basically spent 5 weeks on the computer and about 5 days building the vehicle...it was amazing. At the time, Dave Yegge (now Operations Manager for AEV) was the TJ development engineer at Jeep and took some vacation days to help us get the car ready to show. I think we might have overworked him a bit because he kept disappearing to try and get some sleep. During this project I learned that you WILL start hallucinating after about four days of no sleep...and day five is just weird!
When we showed up at SEMA, we were all still in the same clothes and I had a red respirator mark on my face...that's how fresh the paint was. -dh
