AEV at Ultimate Adventure
August 13, 2007 -
For anyone who doesn’t know what Petersen’s Ultimate Adventure is, here’s a quick overview. Petersen’s 4 Wheel & Off-Road magazine puts together a big event every year where various teams of advertisers and readers are invited to spend 8 days putting their custom 4×4 rigs to the test. The event this year included 5 different trails with over 900 miles of pavement in-between. No trailers or tow rigs, the vehicles must be able to drive the entire event on the road and be repaired on the spot if necessary.
AEV worked with Petersen’s Magazine to build the official vehicle of Ultimate Adventure. What did we end up with? How about a Cummins 6BT Turbo Diesel Four Door JK! We also brought one of our own Brutes with a HEMI, Dynatrac Dana 60s, a Nth Degree Long arm suspension and 39″ BFG Krawlers…no slouch by any means. We’re incredibly proud to note that both vehicles performed flawlessly and were event favorites.
Here are a few pictures from our trip to Texas:

Move over if you see this in your rear view mirror! The Cummins 6BT was moved back in the chassis about a foot to achieve a near perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Those are 42″ BFG MTs!

Texas was hot and humid for the drivers, but even tougher for the vehicles. Lots of ledges, dry river bottoms and loose rocks.

The 39″ BFG Krawlers stuff nicely into the AEV Highline Body Kits Fenders. 5″ of Nth Degree lift and Hutcheson Beadlock wheels kept the tires doing what they were intended to do. The HEMI made sure the vehicle got over every obstacle with minimum hassle.

Great Build on the Jeep! BUT one small thing:
The 6BT and 6BTA was the 12 Valve Cummins used from the late 80’s to 1998 in Dodge trucks.
The ISB was the 24V enigine used from 1998.5 -2002 Dodge Trucks
AND the engine yall are using in the JK is the ISBe. Common Rail 24V 5.9L Cummins.
Breath taking build guys!

Technically you are correct….however, we chose to use the term “6BT” because it is more commonly known as the 6 cylinder Cummins engine used in Dodge trucks. Good catch! — AEV TEAM

Oh please, tell me there is something I can do to get my hands on that gorgeous Brute. Most beautiful one I’ve seen to date. Poor college student, empty pockets. Do you read my mind sometimes?

I’m hearing alot of whining on every jeep blog out there about Jeep not doing a JK Rubicon with a diesel powere plant. If a 4 door rubicon with a diesel motor and MANUAL transmission came out, the waiting list would be years. This is less a market of the hybrid types and more about getting on the trails. If your company offers a diesel 4 door please let me know. This has been begged for since I first got into four wheeling some 10 years ago.
